This policy explains how Italian Apostolate of the Archdiocese of Newark (“we”, “us”) handles personal information collected through this website. Questions or requests: info@apostolato.org, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 259 Oliver St, Newark, NJ 07105.
What we collect
We only collect what you choose to give us through the forms on this site:
- Mailing list sign-up: your name, email address, phone number (optional), parish, and your choices about joining our WhatsApp group and being contacted about volunteering. We also store the date you signed up and whether you confirmed your email.
- Assistance, Mass intention, prayer, and giving requests: your name, email address, and whatever details you include — for example a phone number, your town, a parish or organization, a date, your preferred language for a reply, and the message you write. We record that you agreed to be contacted and when.
- WhatsApp join codes: if you ask to join the WhatsApp group, we create a one-time code tied to your sign-up so an administrator can admit you.
Please share only what is necessary, and do not submit sensitive medical, financial, or identity documents through these forms.
Cookies and local storage
We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The site uses only: a small cookie that remembers your language choice (English or Italian); a sign-in cookie for administrators; and your browser’s local storage to remember your language and whether you have dismissed an on-site announcement.
Website analytics
We keep simple, aggregate counts of how many times pages are viewed and which sites refer visitors to us, to understand what is useful. These counts are anonymous — we do not store IP addresses, do not set analytics cookies, and cannot tie them to you.
Why we use it (and our legal basis)
We use the information you submit to keep you informed about the Italian Apostolate (news, events, the Mass schedule), to add you to our WhatsApp group if you opt in, and to respond to the requests you send us. We rely on your consent, which you give when you submit a form; you may withdraw it at any time.
Sharing and the services we use
We do not sell or rent your information or share it with third parties for their own marketing. Your details are stored on our own server. A few service providers help us run the site and process data only on our behalf or as you interact with the page:
- Email delivery to send confirmation and reply emails.
- Cloudflare Turnstile, an anti-spam check that may run on our forms when enabled.
- OpenStreetMap map tiles, which load from their servers when you view the Mass-schedule map.
- Instagram (Meta), whose feed loads only after you click to load it; Substack, whose blog previews we display. These providers may then set their own cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep mailing-list information for as long as you remain on our list, and request submissions for as long as needed to handle and follow up on them. You can ask us to remove your information at any time and we will delete it promptly.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, or delete your information, to stop contacting you, or to provide a copy of your data. To exercise any of these, email info@apostolato.org. You can also unsubscribe at any time using the link in our emails.
Where your information is processed
Your information is stored on servers operated on our behalf and may be processed in the United States or other countries, depending on where our hosting is located at the time. Wherever it is processed, we handle it only with your consent and for the purposes described above, and we take reasonable steps to keep it protected.
Children
This site is intended for adults; please do not sign up if you are under 18.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time; the “last updated” date above will change.
